"Locomotives in Detail" Series (looking for Black 5 books)
What is the "Locomotives in Detail" series like?
I'm looking for books for 7mm Black 5 kit construction. I'm thinking of something like Yeadons - lots of photos, and ideally a listing of locos modifications and variations. One of the volumes is for the Stanier Black 5s.
There's also the "Power Of..." series, which has an out-of-print Black 5 book. This should have lots of photos. Are there any others I should be look at?

The out of print Bradford Barton series, no dedicated volume for Black 5s but a wealth of photographs in the available volumes.

Sorry I can't be much help Richard, as I know very little about the LMS, however isn't there an LMS Society? Google it?
And didn't Wild Swan do a couple volumes on the Black Fives?
Of course there is no shortage of preserved locos for your references.
(sorry if all this is too obvious to be helpful)

Your best bet is LMS profiles by Wild Swan
No. 5 covers locos 5000-5224
No. 6 covers 5225-5499 & 4668-4999
No. 7 covers the Caprotti valve gear locos class summary
There are also pictorial supplements to No.s 5 & 7

Thanks. I'll try to get the Wild Swan books - they look to be out of print.
This is actually for someone else, so books are what I'm looking for.
chaz: I've passed on the URL to the photos. Sometimes you have to be wary with preservation photos - I know I had trouble matching the livery between modern photos & earlier photos/books for my Y7!

The relevant Locomotives Illustrated will give plenty of pics in LMS & BR days should have persuaded him to get an O6.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

David: Well few booksellers have more than the odd volume! And I couldn't find a Wild Swan website.
Transport Diversions Emporium had three of them, and I've ordered the fourth from a secondhand seller. (I skipped the Caprotti volume, but went for both the main volumes and pictorial supplements - hence 4 volumes).

David: I've sent you a PM. The secondhand seller cancelled the order - so I'm currently missing one of the volumes.

Richard,
you won't find a Wild Swan website. I was told that the proprietor is very anti electronic media and doesn't even welcome emails.
