A trawl through some of my books produced these pictures, not the best quality I'm afraid: the bridge was built in two halves, each supported on a bogie and if the avoiding line needed to be used, then each half was rolled back into a short siding as shown on the diagram. I have not come across any reference to it actually being used.

Thanks for posting that pic. My Grandad has often talked about this installation and though i got the gist I'd never really appreciated what he was on about. I get it now though. Ta for that.
