92231 had been one of three 9Fs at Eastleigh and I think it later worked from York. But in the summer of 1964 it seemed to be hanging around the GC line for a short time. Does anyone know where the loco was allocated during this period - could it possibly even have been briefly allocated to Banbury? Just trying to fill in the gaps.

Re: 9F 92231
Could it have been a Nottinghamshire based example for the windcutters either Annesly or Colwick.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Re: 9F 92231
The RCTS vol on the 9Fs has 92231 allocated to Eastleigh from Jan 61, Feltham from May 63, & York Sep 63 until (withdrawn) Nov 66. It also records (p 130) that from Dec 1963 the York-based 9Fs worked through to the GC on Dringhouses - Woodford Halse freights inherited from B1s & V2s.
Re: 9F 92231
Do you possibly mean 92031? as I have a record of this being on York shed on 11th June 1964.
Re: 9F 92231
Thank you gentlemen for your valued comments.
If the RCTS records the engine being at York MPD from September 1963 onwards I suppose it is safe to assume that scholarly body is correct, though I am surprised to hear that York 9Fs worked the Dringhouses-Woodford freights. They must have slipped past me unnoticed. Lots of York V2s and B16s, and quite a few York B1s, on those trips though - and, very rarely, a York K1 or something else.
There was a phenomenon where sometimes an outsider loco would work down the GC then hang around for a few days. York V2s were commonly 'pressed' into Nottingham-Marylebone semi-fast work as is well known, but Scots and Jubilees (usually Burton or Holbeck engines) might occasionally be noted on several GC turns before returning to their home sheds. Maybe that is what happened here - 92231 got stuck in a GC whirlpool.
NYMR - yes, I am familiar with the Annesley 9Fs, and 92031. I used a shot of 92032 for the cover of my book.
In case anyone is wondering, it wasn't 92213 either, that Banbury engine seen more than once on the GC, including the evening Woodford-Nottingham local. For interest there is a shot of 92231 working a Nottingham semi-fast through East Leake on the internet: http://daveseastmidlandsandlincsrailway ... 83849.html
It was my coming across this picture that reminded me of seeing this loco on the GC and prompted my question.
Thanks everyone.
