The model railway which I 'sort of put together' in the early 1980's for my young son has been packed away for some 20 years because of various house moves. I have now retired and think maybe it is time to unpack!! Having spent my formative days living and spotting in Selby on the ECML I thought a layout of Selby station in the mid 1950's in some form or other would be a worthwhile project.Unfortunately I am not a scratch build man so locos etc would have to be off the shelf.
The locos allocated to Selby in those days were as follows
43XXX,unrebuilt B16,D20,D49,Q6,J39,J25,J27,G5,Y1,Y3,J72,J73,J77,T1,Q1,76XXX
Mainline passenger traffic was handled by
A1,A2,A3,A4,V2,B1
Freight was in the hands of
Rebuilt B16's,K2,K3,K1,O1/O4,O2,WD,9F
Summer excursion traffic
LMS crabs,4F's,Black fives,Jubilees , 8F's and 73xxx
Occasional visitors were
W1,B2/B17,V1/V3,D10,7XXXX,75XXX,76XXX,77XXX,8XXXX and unrebuilt patriot
I realise this is a fairly comprehensive list but can anyone please tell me which of the above
are off the shelf
thanks 50C

Re: OLD 'BEGINNER'
Welcome back to railway modelling 50C.
Font Colour will denote availability of RTR locos:
Hornby
Bachmann
43XXX,unrebuilt B16,D20,D49,Q6,J39,J25,J27,G5,Y1,Y3,J72,J73,J77,T1,Q1,76XXX

In addition, Bachmann also make the 75XXX and the 9F. The A2 is due to be produced soon by Bachmann as is the O4.
Including colour coded for RTR, I would guess that there are kits for almost, if not all of them.
Some kits are made by morec than one manufacturer in either etched brass or white metal.
There are too many to remember of the top of my head, but do have a look at the DJH range particularly for the B16s and the D20. Also look at the Little Engines Range on the Sherwood Models web site. SE Finecast, PDK, and Dave Bradwell for example. The Loco pages on this site also identify some kit suppliers for particular locos.
I am sure others will chime in with many that I have missed out.
Happy hunting,
Colombo

Re: OLD 'BEGINNER'
Congratulations on your retirement, 50C. I recommend it to anyone.
That's a very useful list there, Colombo. Any idea of which variant of A2 that Bachmann will be bringing out?

According to the Bachmann site the first batch will be -giner wrote:Any idea of which variant of A2 that Bachmann will be bringing out?
- "Blue Peter", BR late crest, double chimney
"A H Peppercorn", LNER apple green, single chimney
"Bachelors Button", BR early crest, single chimney
"Tudor Minstrel", apple green, lettered "British Railways", single chimney
So - did anyone dare tell Stephenson, "It's not Rocket science"?

Re: OLD 'BEGINNER'
So, it's Peppercorn A2's then. I'd sooner have seen them do some Thompson ones. The Peppercorn A2's are too close to an A1 for my liking. Maybe later.

Re: OLD 'BEGINNER'
I suspect it's that similarity which is allowing them to produce the A2, just as the 'Brit' means Hornby can justify the Clan. I can't see there ever being enough demand for a major manufacturer to produce a Thompson Pacific, they just don't have the popularity. I suspect we will see more pre-grouping models if/when the economy recovers enough.
