Seemingly not - see Bill Bedford's response, "LNER tender plates were all oval except those produced at Stratford which were 10 x 8 rectangles, but all the numbers (except one) were 7xxx or 8xxx", on page 1 of this thread.

These plates have never been on the outside of a building...
Please comment...I work in the hart of the area in respect of these numbers.? it just seems you have made your mind up on this matter... Please can you explain more on what they are

Sorry I can't. I know they NOT from locos, rolling stock neither are they bridge plates etc. The colour suggests that they were placed on buildings either outside as a marker or inside to mark pieces of equipment. Unless someone comes up with a photo showing similar plates I don't think there will be a definite answer.

Sorry, Jordi, I've been away for coupla weeks and the trail on your plates seems to have gone cold again. Hope you still have an eye on the discussion. I just been up in Jordi (Geordie) land myself from darkest Harfordshire, looking at the course of the old Alnwick and Cornhill railway and them there Cheviots.

However, why not contact the North East Railway Association. While they're particularly NE there will most likely be a pundit there who knows about your plates - which, incidentally are in b.good nick - especially as I have a suspicion they are NE - Geordie - plates.

For my latest stab at the origin of these two plates were water columns numbered. This may be a possibility after confirming they are not loco ,tender, signal or bridge plate numbers.

No but i was thinking along the lines of a later repaint.

I can't provide specific information, but these are fairly crude and as has been said, would have inentified LNER property - given their size, obviously something fairly large. The reason folk are saying not a loco or tender is because those items are very well known and were well standardised in an area and period. Signal box identification is also well recorded. Someone will find out (or remember) what the LNER used that size of plate for in due course.
