2750 (Tom's) Workbench-North Eastern Modelling 1938
Hi all
I'm a very keen model railwayer and always have been an LNER chap. At the age of 23 I missed steam at work on the railways of Great Britain.
So me and my Dad are building a layout roughly 8ft by 14ft.
Originally it was to be based on the Rev Awdry's Railway Series, but in since Christmas, I was inspired to model the ECML in some way.
They layout it's self is fictional, with the main station being Eastcote Central, which is my version of York really. There is also East Allerton, a country
station on the ECML, somewhere like Thirsk.
Anyhow, I decided to go with BR era 1956-1964 so i could really incorperate the Peppercorn Pacifics, plus the odd Diesel.
This leads on to North Eastern Steam...
North Eastern Steam is my youtube series im creating. I have done numerous trailers, with Episode 1 being released on 15th June 2009. The series documents steam at work on the North Eastern Region as if filmed in the era 1956-1964, with me giving narration.
My work can be found on my youtube page here
http://www.youtube.com/user/DoctorTankEngine
anyhow here is pictures of the layout, in it's general current condition
East Allerton
Eastcote Central
Heading South from Eastcote Central
Picton Whiske Sheds (with digital background)
Well I hope you like my work so far, of course the East Allerton section is by far the most complete section
as that is where my first Episode will be about.
I would love to know your thoughts
and please have a look at my youtube channel, a link is in my signiture
Best

Re: NORTH EASTERN STEAM
Hello chaps!
Well have been adding some more fencing this evening along the back, also the area behind the far platform has been sorted, and the wood securing the backdrop has been covered!
back drop covered up to signal box, although some touching up to do
far name plate in place
quite a few vehicles can be seen at East Allerton, plus the new trees!
It's like being in Heartbeat!!!!!
the BR delivery van is ready to leave!
Postman Dennis is about to leave too
the new trees
a rather grubby Peppercorn A1 60144 'King's Courier' charges through with a fast freight!
Well I hope you like the current update, I now have to add the slopping platform fencing, which is the fun bit! ::)
Ratio don't make sloping platform fencing, so either I just put the normal fencing there, which means the posts will be sloping, or I bash the fencing which will be rather tedious, but will most likely look better!

Re: NORTH EASTERN STEAM
hehe, good to see you Chris!!
Anyhow more developments at East Allerton,
the young lovers wait for the train which will seperate them
Milk Chruns and baskets with parcels cane be seen from the morning trains delivery!
The East Allerton Garden, unfortunatley not as cared for as it once was old
Stephen Reynolds, the station master isn't as young as he once was
car park looks a little hectic, I don't see how the milk float will get out!
the reason for the other wall, due to traffic using the goods road, down to the sidings
the K3 waits with the local
BR van waits patiently
and with the rise of the signal, the train leaves

Re: NORTH EASTERN STEAM
well this is whats been happening today
Telegraph poles! more been ordered!
in the carpark, I have been making more grass to cover the tarmac, nice curve, there will be some trees added tomorrow
replaced fencing with a hedge
A Bit of Blaneau Ffestiniog (slate from holiday) comes to East Allerton, above the tunnel, added these to add a craggy effect
and a view of 'the local' ready to depart

Re: NORTH EASTERN STEAM
So there have been some major additions to East Allerton
Enjoy
New signal requires painting
manuel leavers
a bit of flower power
some more of the small walled gardens can be seen
trees surround the road to the station, I love trees
trees on the hill overlooking the line
trees over look the bend
Peppercorn Power, A1 60144 hauls a fitted freight
There's always some idiot in your picture! :p
New vans can be seen (blue insulated)
And finally she charges straight into 'Hampden Tunnel'
Well I hope you like these new pictures, all is on target to get the scenary finished for Wednesday, just the odd things to do now, some more telegraph poles, paint the signal bottom black, and i need to make the shunting signals.
I would very much like to know what you guys think

Well Ladies and Gents, after months of Work, the East Allerton section is pretty much finished!
here are the finishing touches
Telegraph Poles now round the curve
An A3 heads around with the Yorkshire Pullman
and finally the new Distant Signal is in place, showing, line clear!
and now just to show a contrast in this section of line through the last few months
April 2008
May 2009
East Allerton February 2009
East Allerton June 2009
slight contrast isn't there
I'd really like to know what you chaps think

Re: NORTH EASTERN STEAM
please take this as a compliment- I'd say that is one 'old-school' layout! And much the better for it! Nothing better than watching LNER/BR-ER pacifics thunder along the track, even in the days they were prematurely subjected to hauling fitted freights et al.
But please please please repaint those skaledale models in something approaching BR NE region colours!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will
