Steam loco lamps

Post by mojo »

Anyone know if steam loco lamps are available in N gauge?
I think that "Springside" do them for LMS but are they the same or near enough for LNER?

Don't know about N gauge, LMS lamps were square and black, rather ridiculous when you try to see black lamps against a black loco! LNER were rounded and white.

Thanks 52A, the ones I have seen advertised are white so I guess in N gauge they will probably pass.

Hi Maurice
I use Springside BR white lamps as they were somewhat similar to LNER lanps and in N they do not look too bad.
I try to fit the appropriate lamps to all my locos. I am working on a way to fit the lamps without glue so that they can be changed more easily.
I am thinking along the lines of very fine wire through the footplate and tiny holes in the base of the lamps but my eyesight is not the best and I am struggling to hold the lamps firmly enough so that I do not break 0.6mm drills. I have some 0.5mm steel wire which will do for the footplate lamp brackets but I will persevere. The smokebox bracket is also proving to be tricky.
