When you do get round to them, paint the interior colour on the outside first, this will then give you an undercoat for the main colours, and been transparent sides you will see that inside. I did that with my SJ set

On my shelf I have a set to build up to make the West Riding and a tourist set, plus 2 Beaver Tails, one will go in blood n custard the other is part way built in rebuilt form

Agreed. With the thick sides, I found that to be a good way to avoid seeing into the space between the inner and outer surfaces when looking at/into the windows.

Thank you for all the hints, all being taken in, looking forward to building the set, but it may be a while before I can start.

G'Day Gents

Long time no Post. With plenty to do elsewhere, model railways haven't be forgotten, as that is the end goal of everything that I am doing. With more time on my hands now, a start has been made on building a new model railway, Four new baseboards have been built, all cut from 8' x 4' sheets of 12mm ply, these are being varnished to stop the high humidity in the wet season from warping them (hopefully). The New layout will be 7100mm x 2800mm, which gives me just enough room to model 'Bounds Green' including the Hertford Nth Flyover and the 'Kyber Pass' goods line, Bounds Green carriage sidings will have to be cut back a bit. But before I can build the fiddle yard baseboards, I have to replace the wall boards that are warped and heavy, these are now being replaced with varnished Ply.

Yep, Happy in what I'm doing, I think a four track mainline is worth spending some time on. Yesterday I put the first Plywood sheets up, more to do today.

Go away for the weekend, and on return there's a whole new property rebuild + significant layout construction underway. Bravo!

Thank you Hatfield Shed,

This one will be my, 'Layout of a Lifetime'. Another day of work yesterday, saw the removal of the last of the old paneling and another sheet of plywood put up, plus I've filled the gaps above the plywood on the first half of the room, hopefully today I can finish the ply.

More progress, the last section of wall replacement has been finished, plus two 2.4mtr x 900mm fiddle yard baseboards have been built and placed in position, just two more small baseboards to go.

Impressive work Sir! I always find it difficult to combine DIY and modelling, time management somehow gets more awkward.

G'Day Chas

I've just 'switched off' Model mode, haven't even sat at my workshop bench for months, it's covered in Edgwares buildings, the house and layout boards come first. Come next weekend, I should have the last two baseboards built and all of them screwed together. Already thinking on how to build the tunnel mouths, they are at two different heights, the mainline is lower.

After spending a couple of hours on a Bumpy ride on lawnmower, I had a break, laid out my track (roughly) where everything should go, lots of off cuts of ply and a bit of imagination, we have this First pic.

But in reality, we have the other three pics.
