Roy Cross & Airfix artwork

Post by Mickey »

Roy Cross recently passed away on April 24th 2024. Born in 1924 Roy did all the artwork for the Airfix range of modelling kits including Oakham signal box and the Railway level crossing along with the 9F 2-10-0 'Evening Star' and the 'Railbus' kits. Roy also did the artwork for the Airfix WW2 aircraft, motor cars and historical figures modelling kits as well. According to a radio obituary about him Roy made the artwork for the Airfix WW2 aircraft so exciting to children that they sold many thousands of those kits especially of the Lancaster bomber and Spitfire aircraft modelling kits during the 1960s & 1970s.

That artwork certainly inspired me as a child / youth.
