)Good morning all from sunny Surrey (but cold)
Thanks for the details of modifying the J3 tender.
I made plans for such a method a while ago, but haven't put them into operation.
I'd be interested in further posts
Earlswood nob ( a signal box lost when the line was quadrupled around 1900)

Re: Woodcock's Workbench
I feel that I was lucky to have had the older K's castings. Cutting and relocating would be more difficult where the side frames are united as part of the tender side - this problem exists with both the K's and Nu-Cast GNR tenders. The main problems are the gaps created when cutting out the middle section particularly the gap at the top where cleaning up could be an issue. A thought is that if a small piece of wood could be clamped across the front of this gap it could minimise the amount of necessary cleaning.

Re: Woodcock's Workbench
Something I meant to post earlier in the year.
I've added the correct plating to the top of the tender of Silver Fox. The plating on the top of the 4 silver tenders was different at the rear to that on the other A4 tenders in that there was a narrow gap between the top of the tender side sheets and the plating around the water filler. I studied a multitude of photos from an above angle to work out how wide this gap was and have given it my best shot. I used the rear plating I removed off my Hornby rebuilt 10000 as this had the raised section at the front already in place and simply narrowed it down. The front plating which needed to be lengthened is simply 10 thou plastic sheet fitted over the top of that which was already there, after filing the existing front down by around 10 thou.
Here is 10000 after removal of the rear plating and cutting down of the front plating - this gives it a better running period as it ran for only a couple of months before the plating was removed.
Sometime ago I also added the plating to the top of the tender of my LNER green Woodcock. On this occasion it was all made from plastic sheet. Andrew

Subtle but important differences, of which those who only clone-model the much later era may remain blissfully unaware.

Re: Woodcock's Workbench
Sorry abut the massive delay in posting anything more. As many of you will know I had a trip to the UK in April-May during which I visited both Atlantic3279, Tony Wright and Gordon and Maggie Gravett as well as operating for 2 days on 'Grantham - The Streamliner Years' at the Bristol Exhibition. A thoroughly enjoyable trip!
My time has been taken up recently with a trip to Tasmania in August to assist in exhibiting one of my mates layouts (sorry I couldn't possibly post photos of that layout on here as its from the the dark side), followed by our annual BRMA Convention in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and being secretary and convention photographer I was rather busy.
I've primed the boiler of the B8 and now I need to fit the tape boiler bands following which it will be primed again and then temporarily fitted back into the brass footplate/cab/splasher assembly so I can mark where I need to drill holes in the boiler bands to fit wire retainers for the fine brass lubricator pipes that run alongside the left hand side of he boiler from cab front to base of smokebox which were fitted recently. Then footplate/cab/splasher assembly can then be finally cleaned up and painted. I'll be keeping the boiler separate until its painted and lined as it'll be easier to do this on a separate assembly.
I'm also currently building an Isinglass Howlden Dia 281 BT which I'll finish after the B8. This is a body and solebars only kit which Andy has made available from some of his Howlden articulated kits - which means a number of alterations need to be made to the ends - but more on that later. I've used D&S brass W irons and w/m axleboxes left over from building my Howlden triplet.
I accidentally re-added photos you've already seen but can't now figure out how to delete them!
Andrew

G'Day Gents
If it's the 4-4-0, you'll be forgiven, who could possibly take offence over another loco.
I leave Qld today. Getting a bit warm, 39c for the last couple of days, I'll make a dash for Bourke, only 28c there.
See you soon.

If you want to remove the other pictures Andrew, re-open the post to edit, using the pencil symbol top right, then scroll down below the text box and there's an attachments tab on the left. Click on that and the list of attachments should re-appear below it, with "place in-line" and "remove/delete" options for each one. Do what you choose then re-submit the post.

Sounds like you've been having a busy time Andrew! Nice pic of the Dia 281; I'm sorry to have missed the other photos you managed to remove though!
