By 'let-down', I'm assuming it's some sort of dilution, or something?

Yes, I add a drop of clean paint thinner (the stuff Humbrol sell to clean brushes with) to the 133 to get a thinner coat so that the 46 still shows through a bit.

I use the "Mike Trice method", described extensively on this RMWeb thread: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/75178-rep ... thompsons/
Unfortunately since the latest RMWeb outage some of the valuable photos have been lost. Mike uses Vajello paints but I mix my own acrylic base coat from readily available art shop paints. Always been very happy with the results.

I have a Replica B1 on a Bachmann chassis on my "For Sale" table. Not aware of any problems just I have too many B1's.

A few years ago, I picked up a Hornby model of A3 Humorist in her pre-war LNER Green livery with double chimney (R 2265, the tender-drive model), and I've had this notion knocking around the back of my head ever since to give her the post-war Peppercorn-style smoke deflectors.

I'm fairly sure I've seen that Comet do them, and possibly Fox as well, but I was wondering if anyone here has done what I was thinking?

Humorist Smoke Deflectors are unique to her.

Photos of one I have done.

Ooh, lovely model! Do you remember at all what you had to do to fit the deflectors on?

Done a while ago , if they have pegs on the etch simply drill holes and glue them on . I always add a piece of spare brass sprue /or 0.45mm wire soldered to the top edge below where it can be seen from the front and drill a hole in the smokebox , otherwise the deflector will sway backwards and forwards and eventually fail. The protypes also had a bracket/support at the top.
If the etch has no pegs solder 0.45mm brass wire inside each end before fitting.

The hard bit is getting the holes in the right place !!. I always spray paint them before fitting as well.

The correct unique Humourist deflectors were on ebay and now shown out of a stock. A email may bring some luck to find them.

Hey folks; not that long ago, I saw someone had made 3D prints for both wooden and steel tender cabs, to go on the Hornby J36; does anyone remember who was behind that?
