Beautiful work Mick, as usual. The D21 has transmogrified into a thing of elegance.

Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
Very old 30+ years old rebuild of a NuCast J21which has been stripped and rebuilt. Far more detail added , awaits delivery of a 52F Models etched Loco and Tender Chassis, after arrival remainder of Body detail Boiler Bands etc, will be added .
Roof, Chimney and Footplate are straight, Camera Lens distortion in photos.
I have also sourced a etched Tender to replace the Nucast Whitemetal Tender. ( Just listed the Tender on Ebay if anyone wants one, plus a mint Oxford J27 Body and a built and running K's C1).

Hello Mick
The J21 looks good. I have a couple of these in “storage” along with a 52f chassis kit. So I’ll be interested to see how it all fits together.
By the way who’s tender kit have you acquired?

I believe it is a Geo Norton version , no markings . The floor layout, matches the Geo Norton J25 I built earlier in this thread.
I have rebuilt/repainted the Tender body.
I am still waiting for the 52F chassis's to complete the Loco and Tender in due course.

Thanks for the info on the tender.
Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
The 52F chassis has been "fun" and finally got it working with no advice despite enquiries from 52F .
A very tight fit on the Nucast body, which I am convinced in spite of the listing by 52f, it was designed for the Dave Alexander version only.
Now in paintshop.

Hi Mick
I know you're an advocate for High Level gearboxes but I don't recognise the motor in that J21. Is that one of the coreless types that they now promote in place of Mashima?

Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
No its a old N Drive 1015 motor . It failed shortly after the picture was taken . The seller was on ebay selling them , and I had one fail ,after buying a few without any problems. After the first failure , he sent two more as replacements they also failed , the last one is in the photo. I presume he had a duff batch , he no longer sells on ebay. I would'nt recomend them anymore, if you do see any !!.
The J21 now has a High Level's own 1020 motor, very powerful (for size) and running without issues.
High Level now also sell a 1015 motor. I havent bought any so far, I am sure that they are just as good as the 1020 motor.

I have one of each of the coreless motors from HL and they're both very good.

Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
I think the main advantage of coreless motors is power versus size, the 1020 is probably equivalent to the old Mashima 1426. Price used to be an issue but they're becoming much more reasonable now. I've been tempted by a 1328 coreless on Aliexpress that's selling for about £10. It might be worth trying one with a HL Roadrunner+ or similar, I'm interested to have a go with one of those as well.
