4470 Great Northern Livery

Post by 60526 »

I'm looking into the liveries that Great Northern carried after it's Thompson conversion. All my books are stored away pending a house move at the moment. Was it first outshopped in black, then a GER blue? then BR blue? then Brunswick green?

Sept 45 she was launched in GER royal blue with red lining and a half cab. This was quickly changed back to a full Gresley cab in Dec 45. IIRC some reports suggested the blue was slightly different to the old GER blue but I can't recall the details or even is this is correct? Either way I doubt it's noticeable today.

Thanks for the details, sounds like it was never in wartime black.

Huh, I wonder how the other LNER Top Linkers might have looked in GER-style livery...
