J21 Locos in LNER Southern Area
If records are available, can anybody please tell me which works repaired the J21s that were in the LNER Southern Area in the 1930s, particularly No 26?
The place of repair may provide a clue to the correct colours for buffer stocks and cab interior for my model.

According to Yeadon, all repairs for No 26 were at Darlington.

Red if Darlington early to mid 30's , after that the finally came in line with everybody else. I doubt if they were changed until a repair, even then !.

Thanks for the information. Red buffer stocks (ignoring the official LNER specification, as Darlington liked to do) and some sort of red or brown shade for the upper parts of the can interior seem a reasonable bet in that case.

I can understand why you might think that, because I've confused the issue. I was considering No 26, and I appear to have got that number stuck in my mind, but I am in fact attempting to portray 289, as photographed at New Holland circa 1932.

Well, for what it's worth, I contacted the conservators of 876, and they sent me a clipping from an RTCS journal:
In August 1931, 26 and 289 went to Lincoln, followed in November the followng year by 1592; they floated around a while, ending up as shunters at the harbour in Lowestoft.
In October 1935, 300, 432, 470, 806, 1569 and 1806 went to Norwich to cover the E4's sent up North for trials on the Stainmore line. In the end, all the J21's would start drifting back North between December 1936 and June 1937.

1806 was at Grantham until sometime in the later summer of 1938.
