Holden 0-4-4 tanks, an ID query

I’ve got a pair of negatives here featuring Holden G4 locos but I’ve wrongly identified one of them.

The one featuring 1133 I’m confident that I’ve correctly identified. It features the larger water tanks and no extension to the bunker.

The second loco, however, has the lowered tank capacity and the upwards extension to the coal bunker. The problem I’m having here is that I don’t have any serious documentation for pre-LNER locomotives in-house and am reliant on the web which, all too often, lacks substance. So, the loco’s number is 233 but I can’t find any trace of that number relating to a G4.

Your collective help with correcting my blunder would be appreciated.

Great Eastern 233 was a Class M15 (LNER Class F4) 2-4-2 tank, built in 1907.

Great Eastern class S44 1133 was indeed latterly No 8133 of LNER class G4.

Great Eastern Railway 0-4-4 Tank Locomotives by Geoffrey Pember (GERS,1979) gives the number 233 as belonging to a Great Eastern E10 class. These engines dated from Massey Bromley's brief tenure as Locomotive Superintendent, and all had gone by 1912.

Or it could be the 'Gobbler' that replaced it in the capital stock list, as mentioned by John above. The description you give doesn't seem to exactly match either class.

I've tracked the photo in question down on your website. It's an E10. No 233 was withdrawn in July 1906, according to the Pember book.

British Loco Catalogue only gives 1906 as the withdrawal date of the E10. Built 1880 and rebuilt 1891.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread thus far. It's been in credibly useful and a bit of an eye-opener for me. :) :) :)

I do have another question about this image which, by the way, I've removed from my web site for the time being. The image was taken at East Croydon but I wasn't aware that the GER operated an EC to Liverpool St. passenger service before 1910. Does anyone here know more on that front? I have a personal interest in Croydon's transport but I've come across conflicting versions, considerably so, regarding the GER to LBSCR services.
