One comment that has come up on this topic on another forum:
"There were only about 45 V2s in 1937 and about 24 A4s so it was still very much an Atlantic era with 4-4-0s doing the secondary passenger work devolved to the B1s in later year"

Can anyone shed any light (or advise any books that may do) on which 4-4-0s were working which secondary services? I need to look up if any of the Ivatt Atlantics were based at York in the 1936-1938 period, but I presume they would have possibly worked in from Grantham or Doncaster?

I think York would have had enough NER Atlantics not to need Ivatt ones - I can only recall one photograph of an C2 north of York. I'd expect them to work in from Grantham or Sheffield and be changed. The NER D17-21 locos were still employed for secondary services to Hull and Scarborough, but don't forget that although there were only 24 A4s there were still 79 A1/3s.

There were certainly some ex GNR D3's on the Stainforth Branch, with special cabs which by chance, my kit for LRM includes :roll:
I didn't check when they stopped working there, but certainly there would be no Pacifics on those roads.

4424 and 4447 were based at York in the LNER period.

Local services to Scarborough, Leeds, Hull etc. would have seen D17, D20 and Leeds based D21s.

I do like a D17, preferably hauling a NE Area Composition C set.....

Hi Rich,

North Eastern Composition A sets are more likely at York for local main line workings. 1932 version below.

4 carriages: BT (3 compt.) to diagram 18, Composite Lavatory (4-3) to diagram 5, Third (8 compt.) to Diagram 14, BT (3) Diagram 18.

All these diagrams were clerestory roof non-corridors, although there were elliptical roof versions of these carriages too.

Not many LMS ordinary passenger trains into York. I can only see approx. 4 services from Sheffield Midland. Strangely, these are not shown in the LNER Carriage Working Books, only the express passenger service formations are recorded.
