Azuma

Post by Dave »

It seems that there are problems with the new east coast Azuma's, I have been told they are interfering with the signals north of Northallerton, have very poor acceleration in diesel mode, the 3, 500hp rated engines are being uprated to 750hp to counter this....so added fuel consumption bigger tanks ?etc although in electric mode they accelerate like a bullet.
Also mentioned, they don't coast very far, unlike other stock, so need more power on sooner, where other stock would be still coasting. We will see how they preform in service when all the mods have been done.

Quite true. Main problems are Newcastle east end to Heaton. They think it is to do with the traction return. This is not going to earth properly because of all the viaducts. No problems at the west end.

Ah! That could explain why the virtual reality trainer I witnessed last year at the Discovery [former the Science and Engineering] Museum in Newcastle, only ever got as far as Manors before stalling/freezing :( . They tried several times to make it go further, but failed each time and resetting the program with the train re-starting from the current Platform 2 [formerly 8 of old] at Newcastle Central.......

3 x 750 HP, take off the air con and auxiliaries they are going to have less power than a 37. Going to be sprightly north of Edinburgh!
