Not possible to help with the exact number.
But the first 3 digits in a 5 digit set are 428--.
The loco is an LMS 2-6-0 commonly known as a 'crab'. The fourth digit could be any one of 5 numerals, so not much help really.
The date is the 1950s.

Re: unknown loco at Ilkley
Having looked at the allocations there are 9 more likely candidates.
42831/4/7 42851 42861/4/7/9 and 42884.
42851 based at Lancaster from 1956 is perhaps the best fit. But all of this is rather too speculative to be honest.

Hi JASd17,
Yep I think it could be 42851 If she was based at Lancaster ,that could marry up .
As the line during those days ran to Skipton and on wards to Lancaster. There is very little to see , but It could be a light freight train ,as I have a book showing the inside of the shed at Ilkley in 1956 ,with mostly stanier class engines standing "dead.
I don't think Maningham had " crabs " more like "ivatt" class ,for passenger and freight to leeds and skipton.
many thanks for your comment .
