For Modellers
As requested by Mick B, here are some photos I have rounded up that may appeal to modellers (one is not LNER, but a good scene). It is another long weekend here in Japan (Monday is Coming-of-Age day), it's cold, and I am stuck in the house with the bloody flu. So here goes*

Re: For Modellers
You realise, of course, that this is just jealousy on my part. I have neither the time nor the space to indulge in railway modelling here in Japan (it's true....places to live are very, very small), and I envy you people who can build one.

Re: For Modellers
So all I can really do is use my excess free time to bug you people by posting lots of pictures (it's the teacher genes coming through....we love to pontificate)

And these are the last for now. Be careful what you wish for Mick, you might just get it.

Re: For Modellers
Malcolm nice set as usual the Stanton wagon interests me as i posted a thread a couple of weeks ago regarding a Stanton wagon sited on a roundabout near the old Stanton works. I will copy it here later.

Re: For Modellers
Thanks, Malcolm but keep your flu over there, please! Some great shots, as usual, esp of the tiny Karrier cob mechanical horse (how on earth could the driver see what was coming up behind him when hauling that great cart?). The one of the Mark 1 vehicle being lifted was taken after the Welwyn Gdn City collision when the Up Aberdonian ran into the back of the 6.18 am Baldock - KX. The only casualty was a poor chap who was in the toilet in the rear vehicle of the Baldock at the time of the collision, his body was not found until some time afterwards. There was a concerted effort by New Enlgland enginemen to prove the driver of the Aberdonian not at fault, but all the evidence showed otherwise.
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Welwyn GC crash 7/1/1957. A2/3 60520 on the up Aberdonian ran into the rear of the 06.18 Baldock -K/X (L1 67741?). Remember that the investigating inspector was critical of the veracity of some of the evidence given to him at the time as being "unreliable".

Re: For Modellers
Very diplomatically put, young man. Even in the 70s, one Cecil White, resident signalman at that very, very, busy mechanical box, was of the opinion that the driver of 113 Up might have seen one of 'Dawnays cranes' - not it the dark of a winters morn, I suspect. May have said it before on here, but after the accident it was very bad form to have a 'carriage brake' e.g. BCK 'wrong turned' with the guards brake section marshalled inside the train. Perhaps Mr O' Hare's life might have been spared if the Baldock had been formed like that.stembok wrote:Welwyn GC crash 7/1/1957. It all seems such a long time ago now but one young Relief Signalman mentioned in the report, Tim Hatton, is still with us. Hooray

Re: For Modellers
Thanks for another variety selection Malcolm, two of them are of particular interest to me:-
The Farringdon Flower Show; can anyone tell me what a diesel shunting loco would be doing down there??
(Incidentally, we all acknowledged the efficiency of the "Underground", but to provide a look-out for the daisy waterer seems a bit over the top.
P.Way work at King's Cross,1930; that signal between the crane and the camera, the arm appears to be tapered and I keep thinking of the USA style of motorised upper quadrant that was introduced in some areas between the wars. Can any signalling specialist confirm this, or is it my clapped-out eyesight again?
We all hope that the flu is abating.
Alec.

Flu gone (Thank God), and now ready for more mischief.
