Corbridge Signal Box details?
Can I ask if anyone in the group has a copy of the NERA publication “A History of North Eastern Railway Signalling”? As part of my ongoing researches into Corbridge station, one item I am missing some details on is the Signal Box which burnt down in 1957 ( reckoned to be a birds nest fire lit up by sparks from an engine ) . I know it was an NER type N5 overhead and I have a number of partial photographs looking from the West and South but am lacking detail info from the North and East . There is of course the drawing of Wylam in one of the volumes of a North Eastern Record and plenty of pics of other NER overheads....
Anyway the NERA signalling book is sold out and I am hoping someone on here might have one and can take a look at the book and see if there are any details or snippets related to the original NER Corbridge signal box?
Thanks in advance,
Colin.

Located over eastern platform ends, access stairway onto Hexham platform just before the running board, the box being on that side.
Re: Corbridge Signal Box details?
Thanks Albert - yes it was ( I will post extract from NER track drawing from Railtrack archives ) - and I have managed to gather a number of partial photos ( will post samples ) - but pretty much only taken from the West/South West and one showing the roof from the South. Was your input based on what is in the book or should I try further to get hold of a copy?

BTW - this is the source for the date of the fire.
Re: Corbridge Signal Box details?
Details the fire - Birmingham Post and Gazette
10th January 1957 - reposting to replace previous PDF file as I realised that was probably a bit large - but now turns out I cannot delete that one...-

I'm not sophisticated enough to load a photo directly here (tried clicking on the "insert image" icon), but if you are, you're welcome to post it properly. Here's the link:

Yes - that's the 14th August 1955 J21 on a Station Flower Special pic - I have seen several pictures of the box from that angle ( - and several of the flower specials from 1955 and 1956 - seems to have been a popular train to photograph.... )
Re: Corbridge Signal Box details?
Hi, the North Eastern Railway Association are thinking of doing a reprint of "A History of North Eastern Railway Signalling" if there is enough demand.
If you're interested please e-mail 'facsimilie-sales@ner.org.uk'

More on the fire from the 10th Jan 1957 Newcastle Journal

Regarding research into Corbridge station, the PRO at Kew have a "guard book" containing NER line plans for 1876 and it covers the whole Newcastle & Carlisle. If the OP is still with us I may have a photocopy somewhere.
