Gresley V4 Re-created

Post by STAFFORDA4 »

As many of you will know the A1 Loco team have announced the start of a new-build V4 project
(Check on their website for details)
It appears it may carry a name so just for fun what would YOU call it?

I'll start with "BERT SPENCER"

Nice idea.

It will not happen.

It does not promote the knighthood project.

Continuing with the fowl thread. By combining a Scaleforum connection with a male duck - "Aylesbury Drake".

There's a very simple name option following the first in class: 'Bantam'.

In these days of corporate sponsorship maybe they could get support from a high street name....

How about naming it - Kentucky Fried Chicken...... :D

How about DUCK. Sort of balances out the missing bird from Sir Nigel’s statue. On the subject of knighthood nice as I’m sure Mr A is he should get an MBE, Mr Elliott OBE but not a Sir it devalues the honour look at Andy Murray, and Mr Verity hardly worthy contenders compared to old Nigel.

Why not 61702 or 1702? Sounds quite reasonable to me. It's not an LNER locomotive even though it will be built from a Gresley design? However, my personal view is, considering it's their train set, they can call it or number it whatever they want!

Why does it have to have a name at all. Most locomotives did not have names and if the V4 class had been expanded the locomotives would probably not have had names. After Gresley’s death Thompson decided not to build any more and built the B1 instead. Most of those were not named.

Surely a number would be enough. The next number in sequence would have been 3403, 1702 or 61702 depending on the period.
