Although I doubt I'll ever want or build one, it's a charming little engine.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.

Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Hi Mick,
I see you are knowledgeable about the N9 Class, in particular the Nu-Cast kit.
I have recently managed to buy one of these, but there are a couple of problems:
1) It is in lined red livery with the very early "L&NER" lettering.

2) It is numbered 9095, which according to Yeadon's volume 49, would apply to an N10 post 1946

3) It has a Westinghouse pump on the nearside tank (the photo's in Yeadon show them on the offside if at all; although some G5's had them on the nearside)

4) The front of the smokebox saddle is smooth and almost level, whereas Yeadon's shows two rectangular shapes heavily bolted (which I assume are cylinder head covers), or a smooth front but projecting some way in front of the splashers (these may be the superheated versions).
in view of the above, can you suggest appropriate running numbers for this model in its lined L&NER livery?

I will have look tomorrow if I get a chance. From the description it sounds like a N8 ?

9095 is the post 1946 number. This is an N10. N10s had wheels which were six inches smaller than the N8/9.

Post a photo and its wheel sizes should confirm the class. If its in lined livery,it needs a new number.

I have been pondering this for some time, since you posted this.

I know that is what is reported in RCTS, but I remain unconvinced by the photographs I have seen of no.500 that it is carrying gold shaded lettering or numbering.

The trend at the time was to use the yellow, shaded red transfers on virtually all of the system, and that would have been in stock, unlike the gold shaded transfers. There's colour pics of the A3s and A10s with these yellow shaded red transfers post war (one particular one springs to mind from Colour Rail).

I'm inclined to disagree with RCTS personally on this. Just my view.

That does not take anything away from the fact you have produced a superb model. I just wonder if the established thought on the numbering and lettering is correct.

I am sure the body is for an N8 or N9, but not an N10, as the N10 splashers are smaller (in the same way that J25 splashers are smaller than J21's), I think you must have carried out this modification on your own N10. The 9095 number will need to be changed, I just want to know which number(s) would be appropriate for the lined livery & "L & N E R" lettering, and the other features such as the plain cylinder cover, and two coal rails on the bunker.
I'll get a photo on board asap.

My N10 is a Connoisseur etched kit. I will have a look in Yeadon when I see a photo of your model.

3d print of a NER Inspection Saloon with a scratchbuilt chassis, now ready for painting.
