Thanks, Dave. That's what i had in mind for the lettering positions - the number is at the centre of the short right hand end panel, but the 'LNER', which would be oddly positioned in the centre of the long panel at the left had end, looks to be centred under the left hand end window.

Thats what I thought you meant.
Here are some of CL 88339 with a close up of the graining.....unlike some models that have come from a major manufacturer recently.

Brilliant idea Jonathon and great sequence of photos from all of you.

However, the closeup shots of the graining on CL 88339 posted by Dave doesn't seem to indicate any linings, a current hobby horse of mine for my restaurant triplet kit I'm working on now (to be followed by all my other coaches - of the same ilk you refer to from a 'major manufacturer'). Does this 'lack of lining' in that particular posting indicate another LNER period where perhaps linings were not applied - as I seem to recall someone suggesting to me many years back?

Non vestibuled carriages were not lined after 1928, so 88339 would not have been lined.

Thompson steel corridor stock was not lined as far as I know - the Gresley steel stock prewar was, in the positions the beading would have been in had there been any.

Don’t use the photos of CL 88339 as an example as it was not done correctly.
If you look at Thompson TK 1623 then that is how the panel effect should look. The appearance of teak panels between the windows stop flush with the bottom of the windows which is correct.

Thank you Wavey, I had never noticed that, it's good we have the experts
on here to keep us correct. The graining is still better than Bachmanns.
Great pics JW keep them coming, this will become a useful resource.
