Looking for Photos. Doncaster station area

Post by sgreen102 »

Hi,

I am doing a bit of research. Trying to find photos of Doncaster station and surrounding area (between the North Bridge and St James Bridge)

I am particular interested in the original GNR built station.

I notice that at some point there were two turn tables at either end of the station which disappeared by the 50s.

Do any of you have any photos of this area? or know a good source for them?

I have numerous books on Doncaster however these tend to focus on the Town Centre and not the railway

Thanks
Sam

Whilst I cannot help with photographs I do have a large GNR plan (13 feet x 3 feet) of the Doncaster Station area. At a scale 41.66ft to 1 inch it covers the area from the Balby Road bridge in the South to the GCR avoiding line over bridge in the North. It is dated January 1911, the surveyor being a H Handley.

I attach an extract showing the station buildings.

Hi Ian,

If i'm honest you've shown me something that may be far more useful than photos!

It is precisely what I was hoping the photos would tell me, i.e. I was going to re-verse engineer the photos to work out dimensions.

Is it possible to get a few more photos of this?

Thank you
Sam

G'Day Gents

Interesting map, I do like all the gas points around the station, for topping up the coaches lighting systems. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the additional photos, really helpful for understanding the layout.

Can I ask where you got this from?

Also would it be possible for some more zoomed in photos of each platform?

I am hoping with this information and some of the photos I have collected I can attempt to re-create this within CAD software and eventually a model.

Thanks again
Sam

Apologies I forgot the first picture has a zoomed in view of the station.

Does the map go far past St James Bridge?

Sorry for the questions, its just you have something which will save me hundreds of hours of research

Cheers

Sam

The plan was purchased at a railwayana auction many years ago.

A couple more photos of the extremes of the plan
