Heaton Station

Hi!

I have done some research on Heaton station, and I know it was closed in 1980. Is there any marker there still today to show where the station entrance was?

The remaining slow line still curves around where the. Island platform used to be.

Great thanks! Yes I saw that the train route still passes through there.

Is there any marker or old sign at all suggesting where the station used to be?

If you can manage to get to the Public Record Office at Kew they have some Heaton related material including a pencil drawing of the station in about 1860 which I think was part of the research for Tomlinson's history of the NER. In those early days it was a tiny cottage style building with an open fronted wooden waiting shelter. I have a hand drawn (by me) copy of the temporary signalling for the "new" station and could scan it and send it to you if you like. I used to have the cast iron ticket office window but sold it to a friend many years ago.

There's a canny little book that features a lot around Heaton with photos too, called The Glory And The Steam.

Well worth a look for £10
