Pre-LNER shed allocations

Post by Rlangham »

Are there any recommended sources for locomotive allocations pre-1923? For the NER fortunately there is Ken Hoole's excellent locomotive stock book of 31st December 1920 but would appreciate anything earlier, especially for, say, Annfield Plain pre/during WW1

Happy to help with anything relating to the railways in the First World War, just ask

It's not pre-1923, but Willie Yeadon's book (Challenger 1996) does give the allocation of locos of all the constituents on 1 January 1923 - 'The First Day' - which may be some help.

There is a GNR Official list, dated 1912, included in John Crawley's "The Great Northern Railway in Focus" publication. The list covers all locomotives and the rail motor's, the book is ISBN 1-899597-11-5.

We have a similar listing of the locomotive stock, including updates, covering the period 1.1.1896 - 28.6.19 in our GNRS publications list but unfortunately this official list does not include allocations.

I hope this is of help,
