Signal Works Engineer Colchester ex E86072 Brake 3rd

Post by PaulG »

LNER non-vestibuled carriages to Diagram 63 nos 62543-6 were converted in 1936 for push-pull working and received large windows in the brake end, a driver’s compartment etc. Similar conversions also took place in 1940/2 as Dia 65 photo attached. With dieselisation from the mid-1950s these vehicles were withdrawn and some/all (?) passed to engineers use and the attached photograph is of one in use by the Signal Works Engineer Colchester. Note how the large windows have been filled in and most of the doors sealed up. I’m in the process of converting a 4mm Ian Kirk kit into this vehicle and would welcome any comments on internal configuration and where I can get suitable transfers, as I can't see anything suitable from Fox, CCT or HMRS. There are three photos on Paul Bartletts website of the other side of this vehicle. Any help much appreciated.

For custom transfers try Cambridge Custom Transfers now relocated to the West Country - https://www.cctrans.org.uk/ John Isherwood produced the sheets for the Gresley and Thompson Non-Vestibuled carriages made by Hornby, also useful for some Kirk kits, from info I supplied.

There are two Ex-S&T members of the GERS that might have 'inside' information...
