Those low speed drills aren't cheap are they? In fact some of them are extraordinarily expensive! I notice that where it is acceptable to do so, use of the nearest number-series drill tends to be vastly cheaper than buying the dead-on metric size.....

Thanks Mlgilbert for the information. It's amazing what you learn from this forum.
Horley Drill Services are only about six miles from where I live. I sometimes walk past their place on my morning stroll. I may well call in sometime, if I delay starting my walk.

You've rumbled me.... number drills all the way. I believe the incremental drill sizes are that expensive as they are generally made (ground) to order. For most modelling purposes the nearest number drill is perfectly adequate. I've had nothing but excellent service and good quality product from these guys. Afternoon people
When I started modelling there were only numbered drills.
I soon learnt that No.55 was needed to drill out Romford wheels for tapping 10BA etc.
I did buy a yellow flip booklet (called Zeus?) on drill sizes so I could convert metric drill sizes to the number that I wanted.
I didn't realise that numbered drill were cheaper, but now I know I will continue buying them where possible.

I shall try the broach idea. And get some numbered ones rather than the metric.
In fact, a swift Google after reading your missives has revealed an online supplier who can deliver two sets for the price of one.
Drill Services are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Later days. Not just now.

Thats 6 plus 6 = 12 miles. My border collie would be in seventh heaven if he lived with you.

I don't always walk all the way back if I do an outward six miles, but walk back along a bus route and get one to near home. I always aim to do at least seven miles a day, as I'm catching up after a spell with back problems.
I use to have a retriever and would walk at least ten miles at weekends (I was working then), with a lesser amount during the week. I had to be careful of the route home because if I walked near one pub my dog would disappear inside as my uncle was normally at the bar.
Since I've retired I have walked along several disused railway routes and intend visiting a few more north of London.

These shakes are starting to come back under control so.....
Made a box for a loco. No actual cuts to my anatomy but a close run thing. Most annoying thing has been the inability to even out a bloody locomon the track, much less domany building. Or repairing. Or anything for that matter.
I'm still around so fret not......

Word of advice.
Javis white metal solder is useless. Touch it not. As you may have seen in my main thread, the GN Atlantic has started to disintegrate again. However, Carr's is off the market for the moment.
I've managed to source some but does anyone know of another good 90 deg solder?
Now, just await delivery then I can reassemble this Atlantic. Then I will need to reassemble my Patriot because guess what I used to solder that together?
