Surely all of your handrails ARE perfectly straight?

Well John, you have stirred up a question.
As I said I always thought white handrails were a WW2 blackout measure, but as you and others say it was applied before the war. I've looked at a number of brake van pics which show both brown and white, must say I've not really noticed before, but it looks like Darlington and Doncaster used brown and Dukinfield seemed to use white. Darlington seems to use white during the war. I'm sure I read somewhere that white handrails and brake levers were introduced universally during the war to aid staff at night.
I've looked at Drawing 4172N Arrangement of writing on L&NER 20t goods brakes 1923, it states.
Painting.
Wheels, axles, brakegear & all other ironwork to be painted black.
Body, solebars, headstocks & all ironwork on outside to the bottom line of underframe to be painted brown red oxide.
So it seems certain works did do their own thing and a photo is the answer, I might have to do a pale grey handle (dirty) version just for variety.

Well here is another Parkside Toad E to add to the knot.
I've managed to get the sides to join up better than the first attempt, this involved a lot of filing and scraping, plus I removed some of the floor as this seems to be too long, still a lot of cleaning up needed.
Anyway this one will become 161885 a 1930 build, which will be finished in post 1936 livery.
The other E is nearly finished just needing a sealing coat of varnish and some weathering, the D's progressing with details added and new brass steps.

The A14 traction engine wagon is nearly complete, it's taken longer than I thought, but thats life Jim....but not as we know it.
Some updates on the knot of Toads all ribbit (ing) stuff.
Yes I know the 5 is a little too high on 178582, this will be corrected soon, that photo is a little cruel and the finish looks a lot better
in real life from 6ft, who said the camera never lies.

The refurbishment of this Toad is nearly complete just new couplings, glazing to finish and a tad more road grime.
As you can see from the earlier pics of this van I painted the body in various shades of grey, then built up several coats of Vellejo dark fleshtone
to get a weathered worn look to the paint, I think it works. The van was given several washes of dirt then a very thinned black was applied around the lamps to represent spilled lamp oil, as the pic of NER V4 in LNER Wagons Vol 2.
Just noticed in the pics I need to remove the unused lamp brackets.

Well at long last the traction engine wagon is complete. I'm very pleased with the way it's turned out.
I've noticed I've not got a pic of it with the clamps, I will do one soon.
What next is the question.

Plus the Toads are finished....it will snow now and we will be plunged into perpetual darkness.............
The guard is a Modelu figure, I think he's supposed to be a station master (demoted now) they are very good, and knock spots of other ranges, but then as they are real people they should be.

The traction engine wagon looks very fine, having only seen it in bits during its 'gestation'. Unique I think?

Amazingly another wagon completed, the C&W imps are not working to rule at the moment, so output is good, I threatened them with Brexit
and a return home, that shocked them.
A Parkside Conflat S 177910 which is the first one, built in 1935,
finished as a hard working wagon.
Plus the start of another project...anyone guess what it is, I'm b.....ed if I do.

NER H3 Stores Van
I've got one of Dan Pinnock's kits half finished, along with it's cousin, the H2. I had to put my soldering iron away to make a bit of space for visitors and I haven't had it out since. I think I got to the making the handrails bit. My H3 will have the sliding centre door as seen in it's later life.

I have the GA drawings of the body and under frame, so I,m interested to know when the door changed to a slider,
Do Dans instructions have a drawing, the other question I had wa livery in LNER days,I had assumed grey.
