Hi Richard,

If you are looking to use paints to product the teak effect, I would recommend that you use the lighter paint first followed by one thin coat of the darker colour. I've now moved to just using several coats of Golden Teak varnish over a white or peach (thanks to Rob P) base coat which I find gives the best results.

That might be easier to do! Polyurethane wood varnishes are easy enough to find over here, but not sure about decent wood-coloured paints..

"Peach" Hmm, I don't think I've seen that one in the model ranges :-) I do have an aerosol of matt white though that I bought last week for my (7mm) GCR van roof. Unfortunately I messed up spraying the van sides, but that is a whole other story... (soot & weathering might be called for)

Peach works a treat - just check out Rob Pulham's Gresley FB for inspiration...

I've just seen that the old Ultima etched Gresley sides are once again becoming available. With Dapol Gresley's being so cheap, how long until we start seeing some conversions?

Where have you seen them Steve? - I am having trouble convincing my good lady to let me loose repainting the ones I just got from Hattons

Hey Rob!

http://www.etchedpixels.co.uk/index-coach.html

I'm half tempted to get a set and cut out the side of a couple of full thirds - using the sides to make some non-corridor stock! Sounds far easier than scratch building and I'll get two coaches for less than the original price of a Dapol Gresley!

If the good lady has issues with you repainting your Gresley's, wait for the teak ones to be released and show her the price!

And, if anyone is interested, here is a link to his e-bay shop -

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/etchedpixels

I have bought a set of corridor sides - just need to work out what to do with 'em now! I have never tried much in the way of kit bashing! At least I managed to get a rather tatty Grafar coach to give them a try on!

I've just bought some too! A diagram 113 FB and two diagram 155 thirds - looking to use some of my existing Dapol coaches for the conversions and cut out the non-corridor sides of the original coach to produce some non-corridor coaches (easier and better than my attempt at scratch building!).

My sides arrived from Etched Pixels on Friday and I spent and enjoyable evening making up the sides until I got to the drop lights - these are fiddly little watsits to solder in place....

Anyway, following the painting of the first side I took the plunge and took a knife to one of my Dapol first class coaches cutting out the non-corridor side (with careful work this will come out intact - as stated previously I'm going to using these to produce some non-corridor stock). I then replaced the missing side with a shorten clear side moulding from BH Enterprises and evo stuck the etched side on. Looking pretty good although the side is approximately 0.5mm to short in height and I'll have to add a strip of plastic to build it up. No pictures yet but will post some soon...

Agreed! It may sound slightly cheeky, but it is sometimes good to hear what others are building and what problems they are having - means that, when someone else comes to the same point, they can be forewarned! :D

You've made quick progress with the Full Brake - mine is still in its box!
Looks excellent, btw.

Mine will be a project for the New Year.
