I keep reading that the colour for solebars is painted teak, but don't know which paint to use. In photos this always looks different to the colour used for coach bodies. Is it different or is it the application that differs, i.e a solid colour rather than any attempt at graining?
Thanks in advance,
Alan

Solebar colour for coaching stock
It's a solid colour and looks not unlike a pale milk chocolate colour. I use Railmatch teak for mine. Have a search on here for prototype photos as well and you'll see what the LNERCA have done with their coaches - it's not a bad match.

"Painted teak" was also used for CCTs. Although I haven't compared the two directly, the Railmatch Painted Teak that is on my CCTs appears a reasonable match for the CCT at the NRM.
On the other hand, varnished teak varied a lot due to the effects of light, weathering, and probably the wood as well.

Officially it was a solid colour called beech brown. Unfortunately each works had it's own recipesmudger wrote:I keep reading that the colour for solebars is painted teak, but don't know which paint to use. The attached photo shows the colour well as applied to our LNER Quad Art set. This is the colour we matched to the paint we've have found on the underframe of coaches when we have scraped back the layers of paint.
