I only have a 1935 CWP, nothing earlier and the only reference to a type 180 BCK I can see is the 22:35 (FO) KX - North Berwick and return 22:25 (MO) Edninburgh - KX.
It may be (especially if the carriage stood all week) that it's a substitute. Having a roofboard leads me away from it being a strengthener, especially as there's no brake vehicle behind it. If it had been added, you'd expect the normal formation to have a brake leading.
