Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
It'll have melted anyway, in the post all the way from Grimsburg.
Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
Could be a resin cast version, 4mm scale?

I'm just wondering if it's possible to make a 4-6-2 version of this? Similar to this never built design:
I'd love to see this in model form.

Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
Nothing new to report yet I'm afraid, but I haven't given up or gone away and will be pleased to get back making some railway modelling progress when circumstances allow me to do so this autumn. Completion of sets of parts for K2s and J6s is well overdue and the completion of the P2 projects won't wait forever. Then there are all of those green loco liveries to finish off properly. And.....
In belated reply to the last post it would certainly be interesting to see Gresley's original four-cylinder parallel-boiler Pacific proposal with Ivatt style cab in model form, but I'm not adding that to my overloaded 'to do' list just yet.

I understand Graeme, I don't expect it to be made just yet knowing the position your in at the moment. Perhaps one day when your "to do list" is reduced enough and when you have the time it could be something to look into. I'll be patient till them.Atlantic 3279 wrote:In belated reply to the last post it would certainly be interesting to see Gresley's original four-cylinder parallel-boiler Pacific proposal with Ivatt style cab in model form, but I'm not adding that to my overloaded 'to do' list just yet.

Graeme, finally a response.
Both John and I have looked at the K2, and we would have a problem selling the frames only because it would not include the motion
motion brackets and several other things which Malcolm Crawley put on the superstructure etch.
However, we might, and I stress might, depending on the demand, consider bare frames only.

Thank you for that information. Those wanting to use the resin body but not liking the idea of the Bachmann split-frame V3 chassis, please speak nicely to LRM - or be even nicer to LRM and buy their complete K2 kit, if up to the job of building it.

Don't forget that SEF has the moulds for the ex Nucast K2 and possibly the valve gear and chassis.

Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
Good morning all
A lot of problems would be solved when SEF reintroduce the NuCast K2.
From what I remember about mine:
It had a cast whitemetal Chassis, which I replaced with a Gibson chassis.
It was designed around a Kays Mk 2 motor, this was solved with the switch to a Gibson chassis, and use of a Mashima motor
The valve gear etch wasn't the easiest to build as it required some intricate bending of the motion bracket. It involved heating the bracket in a gas torch and bending with a couple of pairs of pliers, then "bashing" with a hammer to get the fold close to 90deg. This resulted in burnt fingers and several expletives.

PS The good thing about SEF chassis is that the two types that I've built (K3 and A3) have been of of high quality and run very well. They are also sold separately.

Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
Just to add some tuppence-worth from the RTR point of view - the new V3 chassis has a large weight between the tanks as part of the superstructure of the chassis but this could be cut and shut to fit the K2 chassis.
The question is whether you feel £120 for a chassis to bash around with is value for money against a cheap, older split chassis or as the above, building a new chassis.
Personally speaking I have been looking at some of Bachmann's other 2-6-0 chassis as alternatives but no success thus far: most of the wheel spacings are not convincing enough let alone the wheel diameters.

Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
Assuming that SEF reintroduce the Nucast K2 then the later chassis was brass, albeit rather crude and thick. Still I expect it goes together okay, I'll probably find out one day with the one that's been sitting in the cupboard for over 20 years!

Re: Atlantic's works: Ivatt large boilered Prarie?
G'day all Gresley fans
Thanks for the info, Woodcock, it shows how old my NuCast K2 is.
I think it must be endemic among Railway Modellers to buy kits and store them away for a rainy day.
As I hinted at above, a modern SEF etched chassis would make a vast improvement to the K2.

PS I shall probably get sent to the naughty corner as I'm building a L&Y 7F 0-8-0 at the moment.

The original NuCast K2 was launched in 1974. Patterns made by Gerry Brown and cast by Adrian Swain. Gerry Also made the patterns for the NuCast V2 and ECJM L1 and V4.
