I cannot really justify a gresley coach on my layout at all, but I got a full brake kit from the NGS for the hell of it. BUT even if I make a prototype short train formation from the 30's or 40's, I wouldnt need a full brake even then! Has anyone tried chopping it around with say, either a minitrix or Dapol gresley coach to produce a 3rd class brake or something more suitable for a secondary line? Could anyone suggest a good prototype to follow if one were to try such a thing!!???
cheers,
Will

Hi Will,
Have you thought about turing it into a pigeon van? I would assume that a spare 4 wheel coach/break van chassis could be chopped into something acceptable, just need to scratch build some ends up and a replacement roof (as it would be a shame to cut up such a lovely moulding).
Just a though...

The original BGs did carry pigeons - would they have been attached to a medium size branch train, perhaps? Same for parcels?

Branch / Secondary route parcels traffic was invariably carried in guards vans and concentrated at major stations. There was strict timetabling for parcels traffic, since it was charged at a premium. While BGs could be used for some single load traffics, the idea of 'wandering BGs' is a modeller's concept, and I would suggest that photos showing foreign BGs in secondary trains are very rare.richard wrote:The original BGs did carry pigeons - would they have been attached to a medium size branch train, perhaps?
