Van number ranges

Post by johnwhelan »

I'm modeling a variety of vans for Trainz a computer simulator and had thought to include some LNER ones. The problem I have at the moment is getting hold of some valid numbers for 12 ton vans.

Could any one assist me please.

Thanks John

There were a number of articles in the Model Rail ? magazine some years ago by Peter Tatlow these included number ranges. The articles covered a number of 12T van types. Sorry this is all from memory, if I can find the articles I will post some no's.

The article was in Model Railways, March 1975! By Peter Tatlow and Tony Evans. Prototype info and modelling exercise. I think it may have been around the time of the 3H models van..... not sure.

It details the LNER 12T Vans 9ft Wheelbase.

There were 4 Diagrams covered:-
14 Covan A Timber U/f Handbrake
15 Covan B Steel U/f, Handbrake
16 Covfit A Timber U/F, AVB
17 Covfit B Steel U/f, AVB.

Running No's taken from photos are given as.....
Dia 14
7993, 90220,151075, 151217, 160626
Dia 15
140612, 140675, 141214, 141405, 141534
Dia 16
138971, 151467
Dia 17
140309

All above had 3 hole wheels with the exception of 151467 which had spoked
All Dia 14 had an Internal end ventilator other dias had external.

Maybe of interest, the Model Railway Constructor during the same era, 1972-76, run a series called Rolling Stock of the LNER, The articles are generally by Peter Tatlow with drawings by Nick Campling and included modelling articles. I think some of or all may be in the LNER wagon series of books .

Hope this is of help.

Perfect.

I use some artistic license from time to time but I can at least get valid numbers on the vans.

Many thanks
