60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" overhaul.
I'm more than a little surprised to find no one making mention of 60007 (formerly known as 4498) moving to the NRM for it's next major overhaul. Is this a taboo subject, have I missed its appearance in one of the other sections (Mea culpa, if I have) or am I the only one wondering about this decision by the owners and the logic behind it?
Following the debacle with 4472's overhaul this move just seems a little odd.

It's been suggested to me that the NRM workshop facilities will be utilised by an "outside" engineering team. That might be true or it might be idle speculation I don't know. But after the Scotsman fiasco I'd be amazed if the NRM had carte blanche from the owning group.

I think this move suits all parties. The NRM will be lacking anything to exhibit in the works. The A4 society get a warm dry modern workshop and consider that this will also ease pressure at Grosmont.

Ooh, I hope we'll be allowed to see photos of the bare frames...
Re: 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" overhaul.
A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is being overhauled at the NRM workshop by the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust's own volunteer engineers. The Trust (formally the A4 Locomotive Society) therefore has full control over the work carried out.
The photos below were taken in early December 2015 from the NRM workshop's public viewing gallery, where work on 60007 can be viewed during the overhaul. Work has progressed significantly since these photos were taken.

Will there be further photos as the strip down / dismantling continues?
Re: 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" overhaul.
I hope to visit the NRM fairly regularly to watch the overhaul so will post any photos I take.

I was there last Thursday (21st) and took these with my little Canon pocket camera (ISO1600/F2.8/25th of a second).
