Old LNER Stationmaster's Bell

Hello all...I have just inherited an old brass bell from my mother...on the wooden handle engraved in the wood are the letters LNER...My mother says it was a stationmaster's bell ?...she bought in an antique shop in Kibworth, Leicestershire about 34 years ago...can anyone shed any more light possibly ?...it is about 12" high, and doesn't have a makers name anywhere on it...Many thanks in advance..
