You have really got the hang of this, so well done. Looking forward to seeing your first coach.

Thanks Mike,

I am going to cheat a little and do a BY120 as my first go I think, I have made a small start on the art work.

Impressive stuff! Using the plotter to score the roof is not something I've seen before and I really like the tool van weathering

I've had that NBR CCT down as a possible scratchbuild for a while. That looks a cracking start to it.

While up north last week I managed the best part of four days and evenings at the bench which saw much progress on the Jubilee vans. So much so that I thought that I had the panelled pair complete apart from adding weight and sticking the roof's down. Hmmm, another look at the photos showed the lack of handrails across the ends...... The pair of matchboard versions are well on their way too but one still needs the end posts cutting and adding along with yet more bolt heads that I missed on the first pass.

Despite using the cutter and Parkside underframe details I reckon that each van will have more than 20 hours of assembly by the time they are all ready for the paint shop.

I am still struggling to take decent photos of the white plastic but her's where we are up to.

The observant amongst you will have noticed the LNER plate peeking out from under the body - I had a tinker to see if I could draw on up and cut it successfully - reasoning that I could always get some etched from the art work if that didn't work.
Image

Since cutting those shown on 10 thou I tried again on 20 thou which gave much better results although in the final cut I removed the small lettering in the middle just keeping LNER and the number - I am still struggling to get a decent photo so you may have to wait until they are on one of the other vans.

As happens sometimes I arrived at a point with the G5 that I needed to print off a couple of photos to make sure of details, so instead of going into the house from the workshop and doing it I made a start on my Teford best buy and before I knew where I was I had got to here.

I hasten to add the match truck bodies were already cut out and folded up when I bought the kit.

Rather astonishingly at this point the gear wheels all turn and mesh together making the crane actually work. Sadly the design of the support struts/rods that run from the rear of the crane to the end of the jib when soldered on will prevent the gears from turning unless I can come up with a different arrangement.

The photo below of the GNR crane at Locomotion shows the support struts that I refer to above

Is this pic any use to you Rob, I found it today on ebay It is a van that stood for years in Tweedmouth yard along with a sulphuric acid tanker. My pics of it have disappeared but it has plenty of detail on it. Do you know what type of van it is, I thought fish at the time. Pic is from 1969 a remarkable survival.

I wondered how it survived so long JW if it was an NER van I remember it in the yard for years, I wonder if it was used by the breakdown crane. I was interested at the time because of the signage.

Many thanks for the picture George and for thinking of me when you saw it.

By coincidence it's the same van as used to illustrate the type in Tatlow's LNER wagons vol two and its on my hit list. By another coincidence I have been discussing it over the Christmas period with Peter Simmerson who scratch built one last year. I have already scanned the drawing in anticipation :D

Peter Simmerson ... scratch built one last year.
He did. Here it is on Marske, photographed at the Glasgow Gauge O Guild show of 2014.

Aside from adding some lead to the two matchboard vans and gluing the roofs on the Jubilee vans are finished and ready for the paint shop.

Next is the challenge of producing the "Return to Singer" transfers which I also have a plan to do them on the Silhouette.

I mentioned earlier that I had a cunning plan for doing the "Return to Singer" transfers that I need for these 4 vans.

Image.

On the first go the I and the U didn't come out so well so I made some adjustments and re-cut them.

Getting a decent photo was a complete no, no of course.
