65447, I think you are correct, on closer inspection of the GA drawing each hole has a metal plate with a hole in it, let into the timbers, and on a section the hole passes through the timber and the deck, thank you. I will email you a copy so you can admire the truly wondrous ways of the NER
Well as the boss was watching a 2 hour programme on tv last night on celebs furthering their careers by trying to look interested in ordinary people, I retired to the kitchen and started to build this NER V4 Brake van which a very nice Mr Pinnock kindly popped into my letterbox the other week, as always with his kits a joy to build (I have no connection with Dan I just give him money every now and then in exchange for bits of metal). I should really stop starting stuff..........but I have finished a few items recently.
You'll probably enjoy that - I built one for Scottiedog a while ago. It turned out nicely but it was one of the fiddliest kits I recall building, especially from Danny.
Hmmm! I've been a bit greedy. Three of them dropped through the letterbox here, the other day. They are now in the "to build" pile. I suppose I'll get around to them before too long, or is that wishful thinking on my part!!
Well JW I'm really enjoying putting the V4, together spent most of last night (3hrs) getting the floor to fit, adding the end roof things and putting the 2 internal partitions in, you turned out to be right about fiddley.
Scottiedog I would not say greedy speaking as one who has just received 3 Ian Kirk Boplate kits to get on with, I intend to build the other version so I can have Birmingham RCW and Gloucester C&W versions. Get JW to build your V4s, thats my advice.

Anyway the last few bits added to the B14, horse loops and additional hinge things before clean up and painting begins. It's amazing how cruel macro photo's are, where did that finger print come from.
B14 Nearly finished now, painted, lettered, tie down loops added to floor at each end, so all detailing done I think, just needs weathering.
I'm quite pleased with it, just wish I'd used Cambrian LNER bogies now, maybe I will make another one day.

The ring is .3 NS wire wrapped round a 0.9mm drill and cut along one side with those Xuron cutters on the pic and flattend in some smooth pliers. Then a short length of 5amp fuse wire bent in half over the wire and twisted in the jaws of a pin vice whilst the ring is held in the pliers. the fuse wire is put into a 0.5 hole drilled in the floor and a very small drop of super glue applied. the ring is then free to move. A lot easier to do than describe.
Very nice work. Actually, I think you make light of the dexterity required to bend N/S wire accurately around a .9mm former.
In my relatively rural part of the country it took me some time to run any kind of Boplate to earth in my wagon hunting days of the 'sixties. Eventually I did so in Poole goods yard, so this brings back good memories.
I well remember watching long lines of steel trains with rails, plates etc, on a weekend coming through York station instead of using the goods loop, always seemed to be steam hauled when I saw them.
If anybody is interested, here are my cutting/parts drawings for a B14, all dims are in mm and for 1/76th scale, so you can make your own. They are a bit rough and ready but it should all make sence.
A couple of 51L NER D1 single bolsters, a quick build, primed and ready to paint.
Plus the next project started (so many projects on the go), a NER E15 Pulley Wagon, and no not the Navy version. The first one I built and never got round to finishing as you can see was after the article in the June Railway Modeller (1981), it's had a battering over the years and has lost a lot of bits. I thought I can do better than that effort now. So here we are, its on Cambrian LNER bogies with NER axlebox's so it looks about right, no brass yet in the new version, and it seems not to have warped yet. Some of you were bored rigid with a preview of this wagon and its parts at Wakefield at the weekend.
