I am trying to find out if/how the red lining was applied to the rear of the N7/2 bunker in the period 1923-1939.
Does anyone have any photos, references, etc?

Re: N7 painting and lining
A quick look through Yeadon's is not very helpful. In all the photos showing the bunker rears in LNER days the red lining does not show up at all.
There is a pair of good side views of 2600 in photographic grey but no rear view.
The only slight crumb I can offer is two rear views of different locos outshopped from Stratford in BR livery.
Neither has any lining on the rear of the bunker suggesting that maybe Stratford did not line them anyway.

Re: N7 painting and lining
My suggestion would be that you can deduce what the lining on the rear of the bunker would be by studying side views of LNER period locos where the lining is visible on the tanks and bunker sides. Looking at Figs 103 and 105 in RCTS Part 9A shows that the lining on the side of the bunker of an N7/1 followed the profile of the bunker and was inset from the edges by a set amount - exactly what amount I'm not sure but maybe about 4 inches?
I would expect the lining on an N7/2 with plated sides (rather than coal rails) to the bunker would have the lining following the full height of the bunker sides. My observations of lining on various LNER classes would make me think that the lining on the rear of the bunker would follow the lining on the bunker sides and therefore follow over the curves to the top of the bunker and then follow the top line of the bunker including the curve on the rear top of the bunker.
Hope this makes sense and is of assistance.
