Ian Beattie 4mm scale B1 drawing
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and joined as I require a bit of help with an OO gauge project - I'm currently in the midst of working on a part-scratchbuilt Thompson B1 but can't make any real progress without a drawing to work from! Years ago I had a late '80s issue of Railway Modeller with the relevant Beattie drawing in it but it's since been lost. If anyone can help identify the particular issue I need to track down, that would be great. Even better, if anyone is able to oblige with a S/H copy at a reasonable price or supply a photocopy, I would be extremely grateful; please get in touch at deb107(underscore)york(at)btinternet(dot)com
Thanks in advance,
David

The issue is June 1986. If you send an email to coopercraft@googlemail.com I will scan it off and send it as an atatchment.

That's extremely kind of you. I think I may still have the relevant issue after all; for some reason I thought the drawing appeared between 1988-1990 (probably getting it mixed up with the review article on the Replica RTR B1). If it's definitely missing, I'll be in touch in a few weeks as I won't have chance to check my magazine stocks until mid-October.industrial wrote:The issue is June 1986. Please check this drawings against photos before you start using it. Most modeller's B1 drawings are derived from Roche and have the motion bracket in the wrong place. The die block should be directly above the front crank pin when it is at back dead centre.

You are correct Bill the drawing is incorrect at this point
Re: Ian Beattie 4mm scale B1 drawing
David,
I have had a look through some old magazine articles and found something from the November 1976 edition of Model Railways. It appears to be a survey of 61306 (1306 Mayflower) and consists of close up photos, detailed pencil sketches and a 7mm scale drawing with elevations (side, front and rear) and plan of the loco and tender. This drawing is signed R S Carter. The die block does seem to be a bit further back, as mentioned by Bill, and is similar to the Roche drawing. If you would like a copy please PM me and I'll send you one in the post.
Cheers....Morgan

Isinglass do a drawing of the B1 as well. As far as I can tell this is correct when I looked at it at Scalefour. There web address is www.edgson.net and the drawing no is 418
