The "White stuff" for cleaning Green loco's was called Kempol or Cempol.
First one we cleaned as the first cleaners seen at Darnall for years and it shone like new in the dark confine of the shed, except it was still black and the chargehand went mad jumping up and down screaming It's Green you F=== idiots it's f=== Green so we had to do at all again in our own time.

My dad was a pupil at North Cave school in1947 and recollected to me once as a 10 year old going up to North Cave station to watch the naming ceremony. It came off the main line into the station yard. I believe he said it was running tender first when it came up from Hull.
