G'day Gents

Would love to meet up at the Adelaide Railway show, but at the moment I'm fighting a heavy cold, but HOPE to be there on Saturday morning, if I do get there I'll hang around the GWR (shudder) layout :D probably be wearing a black leather jacket.

Sorry guys, I didn't make it.

Too much else going on. Was supposed to be going to Melbourne to pick up vintage car parts but never mind.

My next project is under way.

The tender for my GEM D30. I have temporarily placed whatever wheels I could find under it as I apparently do not have three matching sets,

The loco body is starting to take shape. Quite happy for an afternoon's work

Image
The body is currently sitting on a Triang L1 chassis, but I still need to remove a significant amount of metal from the inside of the chassis and splashers as the body sits way too high.

The plan at this stage is paint is in full lined NBR bronze olive as #418 Dumbiedykes

Wasn't Cnut/Canute/Knut the guy who 'waived' the waves? Having been to Bosham a number of times, although not recently, where this was supposed to have happened he would not have had to be a nuclear physicist to have noticed the movement of the tides as the pace of the water flooding and ebbing is almost glacial. I've sometimes wondered why his loyal subjects should have been impressed and didn't they have something better to do than sit around watching this momentous event - like reconnecting loose dropper wires or installing a sound decoder (maybe sound hadn't come out in 1023) or something else time consuming. A very interesting series of postings indeed.

Anyway back to the main event; my 'go to' place for transfers, names etc is Fox Transfers, previously at Markfield near Leicester but now at Kibworth - telephone 0116 319 4950. Their range is some 30000 items (I know, I've just recently been through a large part of it looking for goodies) and they're even open to adding new items, which they've done for me. Tell Lynda that Graeme Leary from New Zealand recommended them.

Good luck (and pretty impressed with all you've done - wish I had 1/2 your skills).

Hi Graeme
Bosham's claim is disputed by Southampton. They claim that 'the event' took place in what is now Canute Road, which is where the water's edge would have been prior to the building of the Eastern docks. There is also a 'double tide' here (2nd high about an hour and a half after the first) which may have confused the issue.
I cannot verify this as I don't know anyone who was there!!!

Having gone way off topic I'll now finish!

At least the post is entertaining people.

I have looked at the G class and worked out that loco cost me $12, and so far it looks like I am spending around $60 on transfers for it. (I know I will have some leftover to do other locos, but it makes a good story.) That doesn't include the other materials and paints.
