Thompson B2 Livery Details

Post by 61639 »

Anyone help? I'm looking for information on colour of splasher tops on Thompson B2 locos. Were they green like the B17s or black. Thanks for any help.

I have to say I am a bit confused by the question, surely once the B17 was converted into a B2 the running plate was straight and therefore there were no splasher tops. Perhaps I am not reading the question correctly?
Regards.

They did indeed have splashers over their 6' 8" driving wheels. Their are numerous photographs showing them but unfortunately all the colour prints I have seen do not show the top colour. I am asking for help only because I have a 5" gauge model under construction and would like to finish it as accurately as possible. Thanks for reply

Were there many B2s in LNER green livery? Yeadon has a photo of 1671 in green, and implies the rest in black until 61603 in apple green but BR lettering.

Seeing your question "1H was 2E" I realise I haven't clarified my request properly. It's the BR era I'm interested in when the locos were in so called Brunswick green. Thanks for contribution.

I am currently collecting photographs of B2's and have decided to construct (with some expert tuition) a DMR 4mm kit. I am going to model 61671 Royal Sovereign and I have some excellect colour shots of the loco in late (1957) BR livery which clearly show the splasher tops in Brunswick Green. For copyright reasons I am unable to post the pictures on this forum but there is an excellent picture available to view on the 53A Models webste.

Many thanks Brush53Falcon just the info I was looking for.

Yes silverfox I'm building from Breeze drawings - I like a challenge!!
I've been at it for a little over 4 years and making reasonable progress. With a bit of luck I'm hoping to finish this year, or at least be close.
Have run successfully on air. Boiler built and passed 1.5 x test. Currently doing grate/ashpan with cab scheduled next. Preliminary tender frame work done too.
No prizes for guessing what its final identity will be.

How are you doing with one of my favourite engines?

Looks like you are just in front of me,
I started on the tender and hope to have that finished in a month or two. At present getting the wheels and rods sorted.
Have a look at this link, perhaps you could start a blog of your progress, the more LNER on there the better, and if you really want to get some inspiration/ throw all your hard work in the scrap ( depending on how you feel), look at greenglades log of his A3 build, also Bens V2, the V1 build and Tims A3

Where are you getting the plans for the NE tender, or did Michael draw them up. I have used Martin Evans ( of of his D16/B12 builds)for mine

Viewed your photos silverfox, looking good. Not sure about joining blogs, taken me a while to get to this one.

Re the NE ex class C7 tender, I'm scaling from a 4mm drawing which gives full size dimensions. Having to use photos for external details.
As I think I read somewhere, hopefully it will look like it should externally when finished.

Happy building

I'm intrigued by the excellent colour photo of Royal Sovereign Brush53Falcon alerted me to on 53A Models' website.
Unless I've missed something the engine is in full reverse gear, appears to be on the main line, but the footplate man in view is not looking back!!
