Apologies for butting in. I have been trying to find a 1937 or 1938 Carriage Working book, is this an original in your posession or is it some sort of copy?
Bit of an aside, but one of the batch of apple green vehicles going through the paint shop is Arthur Kimber's prototype 4125 gallon tender which I built last year. It has been awaiting this particular batch of painting ever since.
I asked for it especially as I prefer the Raven A2 with this rather than the Gresley tender, but now find that for Grantham the Gresley one is correct. In the future, though, it will tow this.
The loco is due for a repaint to the same standard as the tender in due course.

From what I've read the Raven A2s were notoriously tight in shed and yard curves. Yours seems to have managed to derail it's rear carrying wheelset on straight track! Is this prototypical realism carried too far?
Very happy to accommodate this slight historic inaccuracy on Grantham so no worries over it running like that JW (I prefer it with that tender myself). Looks great.

I can go one better than that, years ago I drove my D17 from the fiddle yard to the front of the layout where I posed it and took its photograph. It was only when I had developed the film (no digital cameras then) that I realised that the centre tender wheel was completely off the rails!

That depends where from. It may have gone from the Grantham area, but the Howlden stock didn't disappear from the GN West Riding lines until after WW2. Many of the WR articulated sets were withdrawn around 1946-8.

John
I have just looked through some of the GN Section carriage books, for 1936-7, summer 1938 and 1938-9.
There are two Howlden Quad sets working on the main line through Grantham, on the Parly services.
The workings are: Down from Peterborough at 3.30pm and stops at Grantham overnight. Then works the 6.25am Grantham to Doncaster and Leeds.
This forms 3.40pm Leeds-Doncaster and 6.60pm Doncaster to Peterborough, where it stops overnight.
Thus two sets required. Diagram 218PP set '827' 48271-4. Diagram 218H set '802' 48021-4.
Diagram 218H is one of the common West Riding sets, which Dan Pinnock has done in 4mm scale in the past.
I shall have to get the drawings of the ex-GNR Howlden stock and put them on my possible conversion list.
A D3 with artic carriages would make an interesting model.
I learn so much from this forum, that my modelling boundaries are being constantly pushed back. The one problem arising is that there is not enough time to pursue all my ideas.
