Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
Good to see other ways of doing it, your version was a easy conversion. I will be adding a draw beam underneath the cab from a scrap A4 body in due course as well and a fall plate.
Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
One disaster later the resin body was damaged and unrepairable. Luckily I saved the Smokebox.
Latest attempt
Now using a Hornby A3 Boiler and GBL A4 Cab the A2/1 is nearly ready for small detail, Body is loose fitted in photos. Chassis done and can be seen running in the first photo.

A2/1 ready for paint. She is straight and is also not fixed down in photos (lens distortion).

This looks rather tasty.mick b wrote:....Conversion of Hornby Kingfisher to post war Merlin.
Must get the Finney A4 build underway, but need to find clear photos of 60007's bare frames. Not easy.

Horsetan,
It would be good to see your Finney A4 build posted up as I have just aquired one and it would be good to have a reference for my build from someone with more experience in builds than I have.
Mine was actually a bit of a bargain as it came with a full complement of Exactoscale S4 wheels which was a pleasant surprise.

Was that one sold by "Chris p bacon" on RMWeb? If so, that was offered to me, but I only ever planned to have one Finney A4, to be turned out as 60007 in its preserved blue, and didn't need another.Wolf of Badenoch wrote:Horsetan,

Good luck with the Exactoscales - download the assembly guide here. They are not the easiest wheels to mount as explained here, and require the purchase of an expensive tool which you can only really use on Exactoscale wheels.
I stuck with Ultrascales for mine. Better the devil you know.
Do note that I'm unlikely to post up a build sequence on the Forum, as I find uploading, linking, and writing appropriate text a bit of a pain in the rectum; I've tried doing it on an Irish modelling forum, and it's about as laborious as building the model itself.
I would be more inclined to do it in the form of a sequence of annotated photos on a dedicated Gallery section, but this Forum does not have a Gallery.

Horsetan,
Must admit I have been unsure about the Exactoscale wheels, they do look very nice but I am sure the Ultrascale ones are equally as good (and as expensive), but probably more straight forward to fit.
Problem is as always with Ultrascale, the 6 months waiting time and the fact that I would require two sets of wheels as I also got Martin Finneys last A3 at last years Scaleforum. Thick end of 200 quid although the sale of the Exactoscale wheels would be a good contribution towrds the replacements.
Will have to give this some thought as I would like to try the Exactoscale ones.

You must be my "twin" 'cos that's what I paid for his very last A4 and 1928 corridor tender at the same show.....Wolf of Badenoch wrote:... I also got Martin Finneys last A3 at last years Scaleforum. Thick end of 200 quid ....
The Ultrascale driving wheels and crankpins arrived a couple of days ago via eBay....
Re: Micks 4mm LNER Models
Waverley done a lot of faffing about as well. The main work needed was due to the difference in the Bachmann metal A2 and the much slimmer plastic Hornby A3 footplate . As a result the valve gear and various other parts requiring building up to compensate for the difference. On reflection a kit would have been much easier !!
Also on the go at the moment another Conversion on a Bachmann Thompson coach this one is/will be a Brake third.
Please ignore the bends ,camera again.

Trials and tribulations aside, Waverley looks a worthy result for the effort.
