N 10s

Hi all
Many moons ago I worked at Pelton level shed, the locos allocated were N10s then J94s and occasionally J21s. Does anyone know if there are any N10s preserved anywhere.

If there is an N10 somewhere, it has entirely escaped public attention. Sorry!

It's an on-going fantasy of mine - finding a deserted shed somewhere in County Durham, and inside rusting but intact is an ex-NER locomotive. An N10 would be nice, but an N8 or N9 might be even better! However, it's unlikely, and the RCTS history gives a withdrawal date for the last few of December 1957. I suppose there might be more chance if one of them had been sold for on-going service elsewhere

I suppose the nearest locos preserved would be the Lambton tanks on the NYMR. There is a discussion elsewhere on this forum about the relationship of No.29 to various other designs of 0-6-2 on the LNER. They were after all built for similar work.

Also, just think of the effort in re-habilitating an 'undiscovered' locomotive. The fundraising, the co-ordination, the hard physical work!

Actually, I think my favourite 'deserted' locomotive would be a V/C6, or a Q5, or......... Never mind I'll just have to build smaller scale versions.

I don't think any N10's survived, nor any N9's, or N8's.
Which reminds me that I must build a NER 0-6-2T, at some stage.

Thanks for the info. I've done a few searches with no luck. I remember the Lambton tanks. They were very well kept I'm not surprised one has been preserved.

All my kits are buildable in P4,EM and OO. Rigid and hinged rods are supplied.

Alternative parts are provided. No parts need to be modified for difference in gauge.

Arthur, thanks for the reply. It was some years ago that I was exhibiting at the Blyth exhibition and I think that you had just bought out the N10 but the chassis was only made for EM and P4 at that time, hence the question.

I think that you are mixing things up. I believe that 52F did an N10 chassis.

As I said above my kits include both loco body and chassis and are designed for all three gauges, The Chassis is not a fold up unit.

I climb into the cab of each, insert my reverser key, switch on the cab lights as the hum of their air pumps begins to shake the brake gauge needles from their long slumber.....sigh! I really must get out more!

As a general rule my kits now come with rolled boilers unless it is one of the older kits and is already packed. The reverse curve of the firebox (not on the N10 - it can't be seen) is left for the builder.
