Blue Peter reported sold...

Post by markindurham »

...to Jeremy Hosking's trust.

Wonderful news - she's been sorely missed on the main line.

Fantastic news, can't wait to see Blue Peter back on the main line. Will certainly be booking one of the first tours when completed.

Now we just need to see some common sense with Green Arrow being returned to the mainline.

For those who don't know, Jeremy Hoskins is setting up a new workshop facility in the old diesel depot in Crewe. It should be an immense improvement on the existing workshops which are far from ideal. Work is underway on preparing the new workshop and is expected to be complete in the spring.

Blue Peter is expected to be one of the first locos to be worked on in the new facility.

I always like to think that i maybe own a nut or a bolt belonging to BLUE PETER cos i sent a £5 postal order to the Blue Peter society restoration appeal back in 1969/70.

The Blue Peter society sent me a nice A4 size b&w brochure on Blue Peter in return of post.

From the grapevine ...

BP needs a new middle cylinder & the boiler is in a bit of a bad way.

JH must know this & be prepared to spend a lot of money on it, good for him.

Do Peppercorn A1's & A2's share the same middle cylinder? If so, a deal could be struck with A1SLT as they own the patterns, thus reducing the cost for JH and injecting some funds into the A1SLT

Hopefully the reported media is true, as she certainly is ready for some TLC.

I know this is the LNER forum, but please.... no more apple green. Let's see her back in that lovely livery which still adorns her cab interior

I'm pretty sure that this is the case - istr that it was mentioned some 3 years ago, when NELPG were looking to get her overhauled.

Let's be honest - the BR dark green is the only authentic livery for the locomotive's condition. But you can't have enough pre-grouping and grouping liveries in preservation, IMO and particularly as there have been a raft of BR conditions repaints and some non-authentic liveries too which jar on this particular set of eyes.

Would prefer the inauthentic apple green livery for Blue Peter's form than to see Galatea continue in the BR Maroon livery - owner's prerogative applies, of course.

Same specification for internal dimensions, but whether it is absolutely identical in detail design is a whole other question. The (relatively small) differences in frame length of the A1 and A2 might lead to a variation in layout of the attachment points for example. (Anyone else had to learn the hard way 'never assume anything'?)
