GN C12 Locomotives

I have built a model C12 4-4-2 loco in Gauge 3 ( No 67357) and now want to build another but with condensing gear as developed for the metropolitan lines. Has anyone got a photograph (s) of both left and right as I need to know exactly what was fitted to both sides. I have seen a photo from the left side but would be particularly interested in seeing the right side.

Locos of the GNR by Groves, Vol 3 has a couple of such photos
or else if you let me know the number you want to model I might also be able to help
it depends on whether you want the higher or lower condensing pipes.

Thanks for this Paul. The Loco I am proposing to build is 67394, with the lower condensing gear. I am working from Isinglass drawings and have already built 67357. I have only found one photo of a loco with the lower condensing gear which shows it on the left side ( looking from the cab). Isinglass drawing shows it on the right side but doesn't mention whether the condensing gear is on both sides. I think it was but want to be sure.

I would suggest proceeding confidently with the condensing gear external pipes installed symmetrically each side. Every picture I can think of showing the Stirling, Ivatt and Gresley tank classes (and the Swedey Mets) fitted with condensing gear for the Met widened lines where you can see both sides at once, it's symmetrical. (I am sure there were occasional experimental variations, but the practise generally appears highly uniform.)

I am still looking, but I have a pair of pictures of at least one C12 4505 which unusually show the same loco from both sides, Not sure whether it was taken on the same day, however, will sort them out later today, and scan them for you to check out.

It is certain however, that the condensing gear on C12's was certainly the same on both sides, the only thing that was on one side only was the control gear and depending on time, maybe an ejector pipe.

The lower pipes were early, and on the later ones was horizontal from the top of the smokebox, but again similar both sides.

Well that's me well and truly told off, I do not have two pictures of the same loco with those pipes on.

I do have a couple of N1 with similar pipes.
However, as I thought there are some pictures in Groves, Locos of GNR RCTS pages 61/2/3/64
but interestingly only one right hand side shot. It does however show the operating gear just under the pipe.

So, you can basically copy the left view, just add operating gear on the right.

If you do not have Grove, I could pm them to you.
