Asda in Grantham have also stocking the magazine still. Looks like at least one Standard 4 tank is left.
Mind you they are revamping the shop and moved everything round.

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Hi Manna
I bought 3 today.
Think I'll make one into an LNER green A4 seeing as how Hornby don't seem to be interested in bringing out a super detail A4 in that livery. Fortunately I happen to have a Comet A3 chassis a mate gave me a couple of years ago and also some 26mm Romfords in stock, also a Comet 8 wheel tender chassis and I have several motor/gearboxes in stock to choose from. So I think I'll only actually need to purchase tender wheels and sort a single chimney!

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Hi Manna and Woodcock, I picked up two A4s today as well, I don't really model in OO anymore but I quite like the B17/5 and have a couple of the old tender drive hornby B17s around so I'm thinking of a conversion. Some of the others in the series may go towards a scrapyard scene that I have in mind for an off cut of extruded polystyrene. I have seen somewhere a photo of castles being cut up in (I believe) Norwich that would be interesting to replicate.
Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Picked up the first of my Butler Hendersons today. The tender is going on my B3/3 build but the overall model is extremely impressive! Many kitbashes and conversions to be made from this I suspect. Easily the best of the models so far bar perhaps the Midland Compound and the A4 (of which I have very many!)

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
So far I have lucked out on getting hold of one Nowhere in Tamworth seems to stock it....
I know my local WH Smiths stock it, but that means I have to wait until the weekend to get my grubby mitts on one.

For anyone so interested, I've taken some shots of the GBL D11 model and also shown how easy it is to make the tender usable, in the name of one of my Thompson rebuilds of course…!

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
"The overall model is extremely impressive" you say. I had a good ten minutes looking at one in Asda yesterday and I thought it was the worst one so far, as a static model it's awful and I'm glad I put my £8.99 towards a CD instead. What were the wheels all about? You'd have to do an awful lot of work to make it remotely presentable. I'd much rather pay £100+ for one from the NRM than pay for that cheap and nasty offering.S.A.C. Since we were sucked in by the A4s, the standard has plummeted with each offering. The latest one is more akin to something you'd see in the 50s and shun because it was Made in Hong Kong, that's how bad it is.

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
What a chuffing shambles! I've just phoned the GBL "customer service centre" with a view to ordering two copies of the latest mag, with Butler-Henderson. They say it isn't released yet, and that issue 16 is "Locomotion and the early pioneers" with Butler Henderson not due until issue 18 which won't be released for distribution until the very end of this month. I have of course pointed out to the poor pleb on the phone that his info is total shoemenders, 16 Butler-Henderson actually being in the shops as we spoke.
I haven't ordered anything at this stage and he is going to try to get an updated list!
Is there any wonder that some people seem to get VERY long delays on orders. It's not so much a case of right hand not knowing what left hand is doing - they don't even seem to be attached to the same body.

How fully reproduced and how fine is the cab rood detail compared to the NRM model please Simon?S.A.C. Martin wrote:For anyone so interested, I've taken some shots of the GBL D11 model and also shown how easy it is to make the tender usable, in the name of one of my Thompson rebuilds of course…!

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
I will take some photographs for you tonight Graeme and add them to my blog.
Just regarding the quality of the model - I speak from someone looking at the model with potential to be more than it is. Certainly the way it is put together encourages motorisation, and use of the tenders in particular (which are an excellent match for the Bachmann model and the real thing).
I will agree to disagree on the quality, however as I bought one and have had a chance to examine it fully I think I can say with confidence that I can make my own mind up and speak with some authority as to its quality.
